Mix-Mix: a dance residency with Alyza DelPan-Monley and Collaborators
June 3 - June 26, 2025
Join us at Mini Mart for a month of dance residency. zaza (Alyza DelPan-Monley) will be using this time to work on various upcoming gigs and collaborations, with opportunities for the public to peek in and see what’s in process. Inspired by the iconic Pinoy dessert halo-halo, which literally translates to “mix-mix” this month is an exploration of throwing all the toppings together in one place and letting it mix. They will also be sharing the space with other artists in their community, so stay tuned for weekly schedules of events, open rehearsals, and workshops.
Toppings Include:
Wiggle Room is an iterative collaboration between fashion designer Janelle Abbott (JRAT) and choreographer Alyza DelPan-Monley. Inspired by the grotesque, larger-than-life, and other-worldly, Wiggle Room asks all who participate to reconsider their relationship to what they wear, what they discard, and what they can create together. Through a series of performances and research processes, dancers navigate the constraints and possibilities of the literal garments, the wiggle room, as they undulate in and out of the clothing refuse.
Clockwork is a part of Alyza DelPan-Monley’s developing project “It’s About Time.” Throughout the month, they will continue research around the concept of time: systemic measurement, cultural significance, permanence, a lifetime, watches, rhythms, and more. Since time is around at all times, clockwork is one of the research prompts to passively/actively notice all the different ways that time shows up in our lives.
Fox Whitney currently rehearsing NOT TRIO A, an experimental performance blending dance, drag, and live music, in response to Yvonne Rainier’s landmark protest dance Trio A With Flags, to be performed at Risk/Reward in Portland.
Wash Masks - this mutual aid initiative consists of classroom teachers, public school administrators and arts educators from across Washington State, who are on a mission to collect and distribute masks for the Washington State migrant communities.
Queer Figure Drawing - Elva Bennett from QFD and I are talking about a drawing event, where the dancers are in motion, and the artists can sketch the movement of the models. This could be linked to the Wiggle Room week.
